Easter Egg Hunt - Take One

Saturday was Bryson's first true Easter egg hunt. The day started with decorating easter bags for collecting the eggs. Bryson loves to be outside so he was more interested in running around than decorating. Someone brought a football and we also brought our basketballs out the car since there was a court. These were Bry's main interests. Cori enjoyed decorating his easter bag for him while he sat in her lap every once in awhile to observe and approve.
Next it was time to decorate flower pots and plant impatiens. At this point Bryson was completely uninterested so Cori made a beautiful flower pot for herself instead. It was so cute seeing her sit with all the little kids decorating. So finally it was time for the hunt. Cori and I showed Bryson how to find an egg and put it in his bag. After the first egg went in, he walked over to the bag, took the egg out and threw it back on the ground. I could tell he was thinking "why are all those kids running around picking up eggs, I am going to find me a stick or something", and he did. He found a big stick and entertained himself using it as a walking cane and beating it on the side of trees, while his sister and I hunted for eggs for him. It was such a hoot finally having the answer to the question: How will Bryson's first egg hunt go? He definitely is full of suprises. There is another hunt scheduled for this Saturday, we'll see how this one goes.

Snow!!

It snowed here this morning! We knew the beauty would quickly melt so Aaron bundled up Bryson and took him out for his first snow experience. He is so finicky and you never know what to expect with him. Well he did not like the snow, he did not like to touch it and he preferred to stay on the cement path and not the yard. It cracked me up! He is so funny about textures, he doesn't do bananas, playdough or anything that feels funny to him. Aaron managed to snap a picture for us, at least Bryson has a smile on his face.

I GlOOed my baby

Recently I made Magic Goo for Bryson to play with. It is basically a mixture of cornstarch and water. I am not sure who likes playing with it more, him or I. He loved taking handfuls of the mixture and squeezing it into a ball and then opening his hands and watching it turn to liquid again. I had set him in his booster seat in the middle of the kitchen floor in an effort to keep the mess somewhat contained. Toward the end, when he was decided to try and eat what he hadn't already thrown on the floorr (I guess it's edible), I went to take him out of his seat. Well I lifted his tray off and went to undo the straps. He had dripped quit a bit of goo every where and his straps were glued stuck. I panicked for a few seconds when I finally thought that warm water would probably dissolve the mixture. Sure enough after pouring water all over, I rescued a soaked and suprised baby from the chair. Whew! I think Daddy will be hosting the next creative playtime.

Magic Goo
1 c cornstarch
3/4 c water
couple drops of food coloring
mix well

Here are some momentos of our first goo experience.

It's freezing!

It is so cold! Aaron and Bryson haven't been feeling well and it is so cold outside so Bry and I are hibernating. We are going nuts in the house and so ready to walk the zoo or anything! We escaped tonight to watch Cori's basketball game, the highlight of our week.
Last weekend we took a trip to OKC for a couple of days to tour the area. We found some neighborhoods that we really liked. They were filled with historic homes, my favorite! Cori had to take a test to apply to a new school. Imagine how exciting it would be to drive hours to another state to take a tough test on a Saturday! It was actually snowing here in Texas the afternoon we drove to Oklahoma; we missed seeing our happy dogs playing in the snow. Cori spotted a Zio's in the city from miles away so that was an immediate plus for her. Crazy kid.

The 'do

Finally, I can post pictures of Cori's new look. Her cousin Chad gave her a new hairdo. He even colored it all over. We were nervous before we saw the end result because we had only let her have some highlights before. But he made her a "sandy" blonde and we love it. I like how brave she is and the fact that she is the ONLY girl in her school to have her hair short. She likes to do her own thing which is great. We just got back from watching one of her basketball games, she scored 1/3 of the points; she really played well. We applied her to a new high school this week and we eagerly await results. We are all looking forward to many new adventures in a few months.

Bryson still enjoys watching his sister play basketball. If anyone claps, he claps and cheers too for either team. Cori says she can hear him from the court. His favorite thing is to run on the court after the game and go straight to his sister and hug her legs. He practices dribbling his basketball on the kitchen floor, he's getting good. Bryson is getting so big and soaking up information like crazy. He can point to many things that you ask for specifically and he also makes many animal sounds. Sometimes he wakes up from his nap and I hear him roaring because he sees one of the stuffed tigers in his room; sometimes it's a monkey. We recently taught him to say and sign "Please". Now he knows to say it whenever he wants something and he is really hard to turn down, especially because he says please like Roger Rabbit, it's so cute!

Happy New Year!

So far this year I am on a roll. I have kept my New Year's resolution, to write in the blog once a week! We had a wonderful closing to 2007. We spent Christmas with family and are soon to spend an extended Christmas with additional family. We have been very blessed. New Year's eve was celebrated in our home with friends and our traditional fondue night. Today Cori and I went out to a movie to relax while Aaron made a pot of black eyed peas. Aren't they supposed to bring luck to the year? Bryson wanted to leave a picture wishing everyone happy new year. I have some of Cori but they cannot be posted right now due to a bet, check back next week.

Happy New Year everyone!

We're Grandparents!

Trust me, we too almost had a heart attack when Cori told us this. Cori had a project for school where she had to take care of a hollow egg for a week. She gave him a face and pom-pom hair. She had to carry him to every class and home again each day. She named her "child" Zane. Notice the bandaid on him, he had a couple by the end of the week. She carried him around in a tupperware container on a stack of tissue paper with the lid snuggly on. I guess the teacher didn't care if the babies could breathe. It was a fun assignment for her. The project is nothing like having a real screaming baby cry in the middle of the night, oh wait, she experiences that too.
